What Is SSPY UP?

SSPY stands for Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana (सामाजिक सुरक्षा पेंशन योजना), Uttar Pradesh’s single online portal for social security pensions at sspy-up.gov.in. Through it the state pays a monthly pension to elderly people, destitute women, people with disabilities and people affected by leprosy. One portal handles all four, but each pension belongs to its own department:

Pension Department District office
Old age Social Welfare (समाज कल्याण) District Social Welfare Officer
Destitute women (widow) Women Welfare (महिला कल्याण) District Probation Officer
Divyang Divyangjan Empowerment (दिव्यांगजन सशक्तिकरण) District Divyangjan Empowerment Officer
Leprosy Divyangjan Empowerment District Divyangjan Empowerment Officer

The money goes straight to the pensioner’s Aadhaar-linked bank account by DBT, with no middleman and no office visit to collect it.

The portal calls itself the integrated social pension portal (एकीकृत सामाजिक पेंशन पोर्टल). Its top menu has one section per department: राष्ट्रीय वृद्धावस्था पेंशन (old age), निराश्रित महिला पेंशन (widow) and दिव्यांग एवं कुष्ठावस्था पेंशन (divyang and leprosy), plus contact (संपर्क करें) and help (सहायता). The old age pension has run through the Social Welfare Department since 1994.

The sspy-up.gov.in home page. The cards state who each pension is for: people over 60 below the poverty line (old age), women aged 18 or over after the husband's death (widow), and people with 40% or more physical disability, intellectual disability or hearing impairment (divyang). The red banner asks older applicants to register their mobile number and verify their Aadhaar online.

The Four Pensions

Pension Hindi name Who it is for Monthly amount
Old age वृद्धावस्था पेंशन UP residents aged 60 or over ₹1,000
Destitute women (widow) निराश्रित महिला पेंशन Women aged 18 or over whose husband has died ₹1,000
Divyang दिव्यांग भरण-पोषण अनुदान UP residents aged 18 or over with 40% or more physical disability, intellectual disability or hearing impairment ₹1,000
Leprosy कुष्ठावस्था पेंशन People of any age with disability caused by leprosy ₹3,000

You can draw only one of these, and none of them if you already get a pension from the central or state government.

Eligibility and Income Limits — Different for Each Pension

The income limit is not the same for every pension. Old age and divyang share a low limit; the widow and leprosy pensions have a much higher one. Using the wrong figure is a common reason for rejection.

Pension Age Annual family income up to Other conditions
Old age 60 or over ₹46,080 (rural) · ₹56,460 (urban) No other government pension
Widow 18 or over ₹2,00,000 Husband has died; not remarried
Divyang 18 or over ₹46,080 (rural) · ₹56,460 (urban) 40% or more disability, certified by the CMO
Leprosy Any age ₹2,00,000 Disability caused by leprosy, any percentage, certified by the CMO

For every pension: you must live permanently in Uttar Pradesh, have an Aadhaar-linked bank account (needed for DBT) and not draw any other central or state government pension.

The income you declare must match your income certificate from eDistrict. The ₹46,080 / ₹56,460 limit for old age and divyang is low: these pensions are for genuinely poor families. The widow pension’s ₹2 lakh limit recognises that a husband’s death can leave families across a wider income range without support.

How Much You Get and When — The Quarterly Cycle

The old age, widow and divyang pensions pay ₹1,000 a month. The old age and divyang pensions were raised from ₹500 to ₹1,000 in December 2021. The leprosy pension pays ₹3,000 a month.

What confuses almost everyone: the pension is not credited every month. It comes once a quarter, as one transfer covering three months: ₹3,000 for an old age, widow or divyang pensioner. The quarters follow the financial year: April–June, July–September, October–December and January–March. There are no fixed published payment dates; the instalment for a quarter usually comes during or just after it.

The portal’s own payment summary confirms this: in the first quarter of 2025-26, ₹2,024.37 crore went to 67.5 lakh old age pensioners, ₹783.83 crore to 26.1 lakh widows and ₹331.40 crore to 11 lakh divyang pensioners. That is ₹3,000 per pensioner per quarter in each case.

Quarter (2026-27) Months Instalment (₹1,000 pensions) Leprosy
Q1 April – June 2026 ₹3,000 ₹9,000
Q2 July – September 2026 ₹3,000 ₹9,000
Q3 (current) October – December 2026 ₹3,000 ₹9,000
Q4 January – March 2027 ₹3,000 ₹9,000

Some websites give fixed payment months (March, June, September, December). That isn’t reliable: in 2025 the widow pension for April–June was sent on July 2, and the one for July–September in August.

So if you check your account in the middle of a quarter and see nothing, the pension has most likely not stopped: the next instalment just isn’t due yet. Check what has been sent on pfms.nic.in → Know Your Payments, with your bank and account number.

Documents Required

For Every Pension

  • Aadhaar card
  • Income certificate from eDistrict, issued by the Tehsildar
  • Bank passbook of an account in your name, Aadhaar-seeded for DBT
  • Passport-size photo
  • Mobile number
  • UP Family ID: for ration card families, the ration card number
Family ID notice on sspy-up.gov.in: if your Family ID is not available, register your family with Aadhaar-based e-KYC at familyid.up.gov.in or the nearest Common Service Centre
The notice that opens on sspy-up.gov.in: applicants without a Family ID must first register their family with Aadhaar e-KYC on familyid.up.gov.in or at a Common Service Centre (Jan Seva Kendra).

Extra Documents by Pension

Pension Extra document
Old age Age proof other than Aadhaar. Rural: the family register (Parivar Register Nakal) or an education certificate. Urban: an education certificate, voter ID, PAN, driving licence or passport
Widow The husband’s death certificate
Divyang A disability certificate of 40% or more from the CMO, or a UDID card
Leprosy A CMO certificate of disability caused by leprosy

Rural applicants may also be asked for a Gram Sabha resolution (ग्राम सभा का प्रस्ताव) supporting the application; ask your block office or Gram Panchayat secretary whether your district needs one.

How to Apply — Step by Step

The portal’s registration form for each pension (opens in a new tab):

1Old age pension form

राष्ट्रीय वृद्धावस्था पेंशन, Social Welfare Department.

2Widow pension form

निराश्रित महिला पेंशन, Women Welfare Department.

3Divyang pension form

दिव्यांग पेंशन, Divyangjan Empowerment Department.

  1. Get your Family ID ready

The application needs a Family ID. Ration card families use the ration card number; others register first on familyid.up.gov.in or at a Jan Seva Kendra.

  2. Open your pension’s form

Use the links above, or open sspy-up.gov.in and choose your pension from the menu: राष्ट्रीय वृद्धावस्था पेंशन, निराश्रित महिला पेंशन, or दिव्यांग एवं कुष्ठावस्था पेंशन (divyang and leprosy).

  3. Fill the form

Personal details (name, age, gender), address (district, tehsil or block, village or ward), Aadhaar number, bank account number and IFSC, and family income. The income must match your income certificate.

  4. Upload documents and submit

Upload each document in the format and size the portal asks for. Some pensions (divyang and leprosy) end with an OTP lock and Aadhaar e-KYC. Submit and write down the registration number: you’ll need it for every status check.

  5. Submit the print if asked

Some district offices want a printout of the application with the documents. Ask your district office or the Jan Seva Kendra that filled it.

  6. Verification and approval

Rural applications are verified through the block (BDO) and urban ones through the tehsil (SDM). The district officer for the pension then sanctions it. After approval, the pension comes quarterly by DBT.

If you can’t apply online, a Jan Seva Kendra (CSC), the block office or your Gram Panchayat secretary can fill it for you.

Turning 60 soon? In November 2025 the state approved finding people who are turning 60 through the Family ID database and asking for their consent by SMS, WhatsApp or phone, with approval within 15 days. You can still apply yourself; don’t wait to be contacted.

How to Check Status and Payment

  • Application status: on sspy-up.gov.in, open your pension’s section, choose the application status option and enter your registration number. It shows whether the application is submitted, under verification, approved or rejected.
  • Payment: after approval, check whether an instalment has been sent on pfms.nic.in → Know Your Payments, with your bank and account number. It also shows the reason when a transfer fails.

UP Pension List 2026 — Vridha, Vidhwa and Viklang Pension List

Each pension has its own list of approved pensioners (पेंशनर सूची) on sspy-up.gov.in, published village by village and ward by ward. It’s the quickest way to see whether your name, or a parent’s, is on the rolls.

List Popular name Where on sspy-up.gov.in
Old age pensioners Vridha pension list (वृद्धा पेंशन लिस्ट) राष्ट्रीय वृद्धावस्था पेंशन section
Widow pensioners Vidhwa pension list (विधवा पेंशन लिस्ट) निराश्रित महिला पेंशन section
Divyang and leprosy pensioners Viklang pension list (विकलांग पेंशन लिस्ट) दिव्यांग एवं कुष्ठावस्था पेंशन section
  1. Open your pension’s section

On sspy-up.gov.in, choose the pension from the top menu, or use the “Pensioner list” option in the pension helper at the top of this page.

  2. Choose the pensioner list

Open the list of pensioners in that section.

  3. Narrow it to your village or ward

Pick your district, then the block (villages) or the urban body (towns), then the Gram Panchayat or ward. The pensioners of that area are listed by name.

If your name isn’t on the list but you were approved, or a pensioner who has died is still listed, take it to the district officer for that pension.

Why Your Pension Didn’t Come — And How to Fix It

“Pension nahi aayi” is the most common pension problem. Check these in order:

1It isn't the payment month yet

The pension comes once a quarter, not every month. If you check mid-quarter, the next ₹3,000 usually just isn’t due. Check on PFMS what was last sent.

2Bank account not DBT-ready

DBT needs an account seeded with Aadhaar and active on the NPCI mapper. Payments to divyang pensioners have been held for exactly this. Get Aadhaar seeded at your branch; the payment is retried later.

3Account closed, dormant or wrong

A closed or dormant account, or wrong account details, make the transfer fail. Reactivate the account or give your district office the correct details.

4Your records don't match

The state checks pensioners against Aadhaar and Family ID records. If your age or income doesn’t match, the pension can be withheld: in Farrukhabad, 1,620 pensions were stopped in 2025 for this. Take your age and income proof to the district office.

5Another government pension

No SSPY pension can be drawn with another central or state pension. If you get one, the SSPY pension is stopped.

Still stuck? Go to the district officer for your pension (District Social Welfare Officer for old age, District Probation Officer for widow, District Divyangjan Empowerment Officer for divyang and leprosy) with your registration number and passbook. You can also call the Social Welfare Department’s toll-free number 1800-419-0001 (office hours only, as listed on the portal), or complain on jansunwai.up.nic.in or the CM Helpline 1076.

How Pensioners Are Checked — And Why Genuine Pensions Stop

Older applicants: verify your Aadhaar online. The sspy-up.gov.in home page asks older applicants (पुराने आवेदक) to register their mobile number on the portal and verify their Aadhaar online themselves, through the red banner on the home page. If you have been a pensioner for years and have never done this, do it now: it is how the state matches pensioners to Aadhaar. Some websites say this must be repeated every year; we found no notice saying so.

The state also checks pensioners against other records:

  • Aadhaar authentication and Family ID matching: about 1.77 lakh dead or ineligible names were removed in 2024 and about 3.32 lakh in 2025.
  • Age and income checks: where the age or income in the Family ID records doesn’t match the pension records, payments are withheld until the district office clears it.
  • Age proof: new old age applicants must now prove their age with a document other than Aadhaar (see above).

How to keep a genuine pension running:

  • Keep your bank account active, Aadhaar-seeded and NPCI-mapped.
  • Keep your Aadhaar, Family ID and pension details the same: name, date of birth and address.
  • If a family member who got a pension dies, report it to the district office.
  • If a payment is held, go to the district office early with your age and income documents.

The eDistrict Connection — Certificates Your Pension Depends On

Every SSPY pension starts with eDistrict UP certificates:

  • Income certificate: for every pension, proof that the family is within the limit. The Lekhpal verifies the income in the field before the Tehsildar issues it.
  • Death certificate: for the widow pension, the husband’s death certificate is the key document.
  • Birth certificate: the best age proof for the old age pension, now that Aadhaar isn’t accepted for age.
  • Parivar Register Nakal: the rural age and family proof the portal accepts.
  • Domicile certificate and ration card: proof of residence and of a low-income household; families with a priority ration card are often the ones who qualify.
  • UP Family ID: the state uses it to find people turning 60 and to check pensioners’ age and income.

The eDistrict certificates and the pension application can all be done at the same Jan Seva Kendra, from the income certificate to the pension form.

Frequently asked questions

What is SSPY UP?

SSPY (Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana) is Uttar Pradesh's single portal for social security pensions, at sspy-up.gov.in. It runs four pensions: old age, destitute women (widow), divyang (disability) and leprosy. About 1.2 crore people get a pension through it.

How much is the SSPY pension?

₹1,000 a month for the old age, widow and divyang pensions, and ₹3,000 a month for the leprosy pension. It is paid every three months, so an old age, widow or divyang pensioner gets ₹3,000 a quarter by DBT to an Aadhaar-linked bank account. Old age and divyang were raised from ₹500 to ₹1,000 in December 2021.

Has the UP pension been increased to ₹1,500?

Not yet. In October 2026 the Chief Minister gave in-principle approval to raise the old age, widow and divyang pensions from ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 a month, but the cabinet still has to approve it and the money is expected in the December 2026 supplementary budget. Until a government order is issued and sspy-up.gov.in shows the new amount, the pension is ₹1,000.

What is the income limit for the SSPY pension?

Old age and divyang: family income up to ₹46,080 a year in rural areas and ₹56,460 in urban areas. Widow (destitute women) and leprosy: up to ₹2 lakh a year. The figure must match your income certificate from eDistrict.

Why is the pension paid every three months?

UP pays the pension in quarterly instalments: ₹3,000 (three months of ₹1,000) at a time, for the April–June, July–September, October–December and January–March quarters. If you check your account in the middle of a quarter and see nothing, the next instalment is usually just not due yet.

Why did my pension stop?

The usual reasons: the next quarterly instalment isn't due yet; the bank account isn't Aadhaar-seeded and NPCI-mapped for DBT, or is closed or dormant; you are an older applicant who hasn't registered your mobile and verified your Aadhaar on the portal; your age or income doesn't match your Family ID records; or you are getting another government pension. Check the payment on PFMS, fix the bank account at your branch, and take the rest to your district office or the CM Helpline 1076.

What documents do I need?

For all pensions: Aadhaar, a Family ID (the ration card number for ration card families), an income certificate from eDistrict, an Aadhaar-linked bank passbook, a photo and a mobile number. Old age: age proof other than Aadhaar (family register or education certificate in villages; education certificate, voter ID, PAN, driving licence or passport in towns). Widow: the husband's death certificate. Divyang: a CMO disability certificate of 40% or more, or a UDID card. Leprosy: a CMO certificate of disability caused by leprosy.

Is Aadhaar accepted as age proof for the old age pension?

Not any more for new applicants. Since 2026, applicants whose pension has not started must upload another age proof: the family register or an education certificate in rural areas, or an education certificate, voter ID, PAN, driving licence or passport in urban areas. People already getting the pension need not do anything.

Can I get the SSPY pension with another government pension?

No. None of the four pensions can be drawn by someone who already gets a pension from the central or state government, and you can hold only one SSPY pension.

How do I check my application status?

On sspy-up.gov.in, open your pension's section from the menu (राष्ट्रीय वृद्धावस्था पेंशन, निराश्रित महिला पेंशन, or दिव्यांग एवं कुष्ठावस्था पेंशन) and choose the application status option. Enter your registration number. After approval, check whether money has been sent on pfms.nic.in under "Know Your Payments".

Who can get the widow (destitute women) pension?

A woman aged 18 or over, living in UP, whose husband has died and who has not remarried, with family income up to ₹2 lakh a year and no other government pension. The husband's death certificate is the key document. About 42.4 lakh women got it in the July–September 2026 quarter.

What is the SSPY helpline number?

The portal lists the Social Welfare Department's toll-free number 1800-419-0001, which works in office hours only, not round the clock. You can also complain on jansunwai.up.nic.in or the CM Helpline 1076, or go to the district officer for your pension.

Who can get the leprosy pension?

A person of any age with disability caused by leprosy, of any percentage, certified by the CMO, living in UP, with family income up to ₹2 lakh a year. It pays ₹3,000 a month and is run by the Divyangjan Empowerment Department.
